HARD ROCK INTERNATIONAL ANNOUNCES “PINKTOBER” [09.04.08]
BEVERLEY KNIGHT, STARSAILOR, MELANIE C AND STAIND PERFORM ACROSS THE UK TO RAISE MONEY FOR THE CARON KEATING FOUNDATION
London, 4 September 2008 – Hard Rock International today announce the launch of “Pinktober” – a month-long initiative to raise awareness and funds for breast cancer research through a series of live music gigs featuring Beverley Knight, Starsailor, Melanie C and Staind.

For the second year running, Hard Rock Cafes in the U.K. will donate proceeds to The Caron Keating Foundation, which offers financial support and grants to all types of cancer charities, professional carers, complimentary healing practitioners, as well as individuals and families who are affected by the disease.

Those who benefit range from hospices, professional carers and all types of support groups.

Founder of the foundation, Gloria Hunniford… “I am so thrilled that Hard Rock Cafe has chosen to support the Caron Keating Foundation again. We are very much a family run organisation, with our only expense being a part-time secretary. We have all in our working lives been involved in the music industry. Caron used to present a television rock programme as well as hosting occasionally 'Top of the Pops', and I know, she would truly approve of 'Pinktober' and how many people dealing with cancer will be helped through your efforts in raising money, in her name.”

Hard Rock’s ‘Pinktober’, which started out as ‘Rocktober’ in Europe in 2005 and grew into a global campaign, brings some of the world’s best live music to small and intimate surroundings. The series of events support local breast cancer charities across the world, and proceeds from each event throughout the month goes to the chosen charities. Last year saw Wet Wet Wet, Ghosts, Nerina Pallot, Lil’ Chris and Ross Copperman all perform for this worthy cause and this year’s line up is set to be just as exciting.

Platinum selling artist Beverley Knight will take to the Hard Rock stage on 8 October in London. Widely regarded as Britain’s greatest soul singer, the multi award winning Beverley Knight will melt audiences with an acoustic set including her hit singles, “Greatest Day”, “Shoulda Woulda Coulda” and “ Come As You Are” as part of Pinktober.

PINKTOBER DATES:
Wednesday 17 September - STAIND - Hard Rock, London
Wednesday 8 October - BEVERLEY KNIGHT - Hard Rock, London
Thursday 9 October - MELANIE C - Hard Rock, Manchester
Wednesday 15 October - STARSAILOR - Hard Rock, London

Tickets go on sale Friday 5 September and are available through www.ticketweb.co.uk

In addition to the live music, Hard Rock “Pinktober” merchandise will be sold exclusively at select Hard Rock International properties worldwide, including Cafes, Hotels, Casinos, Park and on www.hardrock.com. These include:

• Hard Rock’s “Pinktober” pin, the ninth in a series supporting breast cancer research, features a silver, three-dimensional curved hinge covering the body of the guitar, filled with clear rhinestones. When the hinge is opened, a hot pink acoustic guitar with a pale pink ribbon design – a symbol for breast cancer supporters – is revealed. The pin also features the powerful message “Stop Breast Cancer for Life.”

• Hard Rock’s “Pinktober” offerings also include a baby doll black, ladies T-shirt. It features Hard Rock’s “Love All, Serve All” mantra and the Hard Rock brand logo in black foil across the front center chest, accented with a pink rhinestone-adorned ribbon.

• A keychain has also been created for “Pinktober.” This beautiful keychain features seven charms that capture the spirit of peace, love, life and rock ‘n’ roll – including a pink ribbon, a heart, a peace sign, a microphone, a guitar, a lip print and the iconic Hard Rock logo.

Proceeds from the sale of special limited-edition 2008 Hard Rock “Pinktober” merchandise will benefit The breast Cancer Research Foundation, with 75% of the retail price of each pin sold and 15% of the retail price of each t-shirt and key chain sold going directly to the cause.

Mango Tree presents: Beverley Knight LIVE
Up close and personal with the 'Knight' of all nights!
Monday 21st July 2008

The UK's Queen of Soul, Beverley Knight, will be performing an exclusive selection of her hits, in a stripped down format, for one night only, in the unique surroundings of one of London's most critically acclaimed Thai restaurants, Mango Tree. Profits from the evening will be split between Cancer Research UK and the Terrence Higgens Trust.

Imagine this: Beverley Knight, the ultimate soul diva. Now add an invite-only audience of 200 distinguished guests and top it off with the renowned hospitality and food of London's finest Thai restaurant, all on a summer's night in Belgravia.

Set to take place on Monday July 21st from 6pm, 'An audience with Beverley Knight' is a truly special once-in-a-lifetime experience. The evening opens with a Cape North cocktail reception followed by dinner from a menu exclusively created by Executive Head Chef Mark Read.

When asked about the event, Beverley said, 'Helping charities close to my heart means a lot to me so I am really looking forward to performing in aid of Terrence Higgins Trust and Cancer Research UK in this intimate setting - and the gorgeous Thai food at the Mango Tree will be an extra bonus!'

Hosted by the queen of clubs, Amy Lame, this is one evening you would not want to miss. In addition to the mesmerizing performance and wonderful food, there will also be additional entertainment throughout the evening and an auction in aid of Cancer Research UK and Terrence Higgins Trust.
Beverley joined Chaka Khan on stage last weekend at The Montreux Jazz Festival. Beverley sang Disrespectful with Chaka and then went on to sing ‘Sweet Thing’ on her own.
The performance received a standing ovation from none other than Quincy Jones, who celebrated his 75th birthday the following day. Beverley was also present for his birthday celebrations and actually joined Chaka and other artists on stage to sing to the musical legend.

Last week Beverley fulfilled a long-term dream with the first of two special guest appearances supporting her musical hero Prince at London’s O2 Arena on Friday night. She played to blistering 30-minute set to open for him and he then personally invited her to jam with him at the aftershow where he played guitar with her on Keep This Fire and Piece Of My Heart. She then sang with his band backing him on hits like A Love Bizarre and Controversy as well as taking lead on a blistering version of Sweet Thing.

Knight, who collected an MBE earlier this year, also features on the new Annie Lennox track “Sing’ for the Lennox supported South African Aids Charity, TAC. Beverley was delighted to be asked to support the cause by Annie, another of Beverley’s musical role models. She appears on the track, which features on Lennox’s forthcoming album, due in October, alongside such names as Madonna, Shakira, Celine Dion Kd Lang, Gladys Knight, Joss Stone and KT Tunstall.

PRINCE SHOW REVIEW [08.14.07]
Here is a brilliant fan review from Friday night posted in the BeverleyKnight.com forum

“So first Prince's show was awesome.... Next thing we know he comes off at the end of his show and asks Beverley's band to set up at the aftershow Party at Indigo. Bev plays a set in there for about 45 mins including hits like Made It Back and Greatest Day plus songs from her new album Music City Soul like Queen of Starting Over and Black Butta. Then during her hit Keep The Fire Burning Prince's horn section, including legendary Maceo Parker and his players suddenly come out of the wings and march onto the stage onto the stage playing a funky riff along to the song, next Prince's backing vocalists arrive and then, all of sudden the man himself is centre stage, playing guitar to a 10 min version of the Keep The Fire Burning groove. Crowd go crazy!

Next Prince whispers in her ear and asks Beverley to play her hit from last year, Piece Of My Heart and gives up the most amazing guitar solo. The Jam goes on for over 2 hours Bev taking BV's on covers and Prince Hits including Controversy, A Love Bizarre and Alphabet St. A Beverley ad lib during Prince's rendition of Rufus Classic "Sweet Thing" drew cheers from the crowd and such a glance from Prince that it had everyone laughing. Prince then had the crowd chanting "Beverley! Beverley!"

It was Prince's longest aftershow appearance of the tour so far by some way and drew to a close around 3.30am. The Man looked like he was having the time of his life. Beverley certainly had the night of hers! And it might happen all over again soon...Beverley is supporting again tomorrow.”
